The Moonbats That Aren't Barking

update: Answer the questions, Dan. On your way out the door is fine.

update: The moonbats aren't barking, but the media sharks are starting to smell blood in the water.

CBS has issued an apology and a half-assed "explanation" claiming that they were duped. Considering the damage to their reputation, you would imagine that they would be falling all over themselves to get to the bottom of this - i.e. who is the source of the memos? You would be wrong. Now that we know that Burkett claims only to have been a conduit for these memos, you would think the moonbats would be spouting off their theorie of how Karl Rove must have mailed the documents to Burkett. Again, you would be wrong.

Why isn't CBS screaming bloody murder and burning a source? Why aren't the moonbats driving themselves wild with speculation? Buried deep in this Fox News story, we may have an answer:

Adding more fuel to the fire, Burkett, who lives in Abilene, Texas, has now also said that he passed the documents on to former Sen. Max Cleland, a Georgia Democrat and triple amputee from Vietnam, who is working with the Kerry campaign.

CBS knows how bad it looks that they allowed their own bias and Rather's grudge against the Bush family to overcome what common sense should have told them - that you can't base a hit piece like this solely on the word of political operatives from the other side. Using Ben Barnes, who donated close to half a million dollars to Kerry over the past 5 years was bad enough. Using a nutburger like Burkett was worse. Failing to disclose what role the Kerry campaign might have had would be the nail in both CBS's and Kerry's coffins. As for the moonbats, they just want this to go away now that they realize that they can't blame Rove for this hit piece and it is going to bring down the wrong candidate.
